Sowmya Gupta :
Sowmya Gupta is a hijra trans activist from Mumbai. She is a science graduate and and working in human rights and health sector over a decade. She is currently working as the Associate Programme Manager with The Hunsafar Trust (oldest LGBT organization in India). She is founder member of various transgnder organization including Triveni Samaj Vikas Kendra which caters to more than 2000 transgender in Mumbai, Maharashtra. Soumya is strong and resilient transwomen who is committed transform trans welfare.
Shaman Gupta :
Shaman is a transman working for trans rights in India for the past 3 years. He is an engineering graduate from NITK Surathkal and has worked as a software developer with Oracle in his early career days. He currently works as operations head in a social enterprise working in education sector. He is founding member of one of the most spread out support groups for transmen in India and is one of the only transmen who are publicly out in India and actively helping and supporting young transmen from various parts of the country.
Urmi Jadhav : Treasurer
Urmi is working as the transgender/hijra point person with The Humsafar Trust. Urmi works in HIV and human rights sector for the last fifteen years. Urmi is associated with the HIV positive group called ‘Safe Sailors Club’. Urmi is great dancer and a founding member of the first trans led dancing group called ‘Dancing Queens’. Urmi is been part of the various documentary films on the trans issues and she has worked towards establishing various transgender organizations. Urmi is also board member of ‘Maharashtra Transgender Social Welfare Board’.
Maya Awasthy: Secretary
Maya is a programme officer with a care and support programme called Vihaan. She is a transperson who has been instrumental in establishing an organization especially for married men having sex with men and transpeople in India. Maya is the Dancing Queens’ manager and also part of the various trans advocacy initiatives. She has worked very closely with Queer Azaadi March work in Mumbai. She has worked in Delhi and Bihar on similar issues in the past.
Abhina Aher : Chief Functionary
Abhina Aher is trans activist working on health and human rights over last twenty years in India and across the globe. She is part of the Asia Pacific Transgender Network (APTN), International Trans Reference Group (IRGT), Technical Resource Group member of National AIDS Control Organization (NACO). She has worked with the various funding organizations and community based organization including The Humsafar Trust, India HIV/AIDS Alliance, Johns Hopkins University, Family Health International. She is a founding member of the Dancing Queens which has been awarded by Human Rights Campaign for global innovative initiative.
Aditya Batavia : Executive Board Member
Aditya Batavia is a Human Resource professional with a strong passion for Diversity and Inclusion and is working closely on creating a society of equal opportunity.He holds a masters in Psychology and is a certified mental health professional and counsellor for the LGBTIQ spectrum.
He is also a trans rights activist and helps provide a support system to the trans gender community – both socially as well as legally; in the form of social support, transitioning, employment, etc.
Aarav Singh : Executive Member
Aarav is young transman who has been working closely on ground to provide counselling, family support, surgery support and group formation for TWEET Foundation. Aarav is strong person who is committed to increase the visibility and exposure on transmen issues. Aarav is a commercial driver and has been associated with women taxi services called as ‘Sakha Cabs’ run by Azaad Foundation. Currently Aarav is working strongly to mobilze transmen and map them for various services. He is also working for TWEET Foundation as programme staff and collaborating with various trans friendly referrals.
